The head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, who is in a deep crisis, wants to find the way back to success with a clear announcement to his team.
Munich – On the field without a win, off the field in the gossip columns: Urban Meyer is not to be envied at the moment. At a press conference, the head coach of the Jaguars now painstakingly tried to turn the focus towards sports.
He is now concentrating in his work on pushing his team to a very specific number: 250.
Meyer demands no less than 250 rushing and 250 passing yards from his stars – and that in every single game.
“When people ask me what the Jaguars’ offensive identity is, I say it’s physical. We want to get the ball forward and be balanced,” Meyer said. He said his goal is to put up a 250/250 [Rushing Yards/Passing Yards] record in every game.
“On Sunday we did 250/200,” Meyer continued.
Meyer already had the same goal in Ohio
The 57-year-old’s 250/250 goal dates back to his days as a college coach. Even at Ohio State, he demanded such a record from his offense.
The Buckeyes managed it exactly 20 times – only three teams achieved it more often between 2012 and 2018.
Now in Jacksonville, though, that seems utopian. Under Meyer, the Jaguars got off to a complete false start with five losses.
They averaged 348 yards per game – including 218.6 passing yards and 129.4 rushing yards.
All in all, Meyer’s target seems somewhat utopian. According to the portal “Pro Football Reference”, no team in NFL history has ever managed more than one “250/250” game in a season.
So Urban Meyer still has a lot of work to do…
