Running backs are getting paid less and less in the NFL, their standing is sinking. Austin Ekeler is now demanding an explanation from owners for the dilemma.
All position groups in the NFL are getting more money and good contracts – but not the running backs.
Austin Ekeler, running back for the Los Angeles Chargers, now wants to ask NFL team owners why running backs in the league are underpaid – he told “CBS Sports”.
“I’m very vocal about that. Because it’s not good for the market for running backs in terms of money invested,” Ekeler said. “From the players’ perspective, we have no control over that. I don’t have any control. So we really want answers from the owners. For example: Why are you doing this? What’s the reason for that? “
In addition, the 28-year-old explained that he was far from a trade because of the high picks the franchise wanted in return for him. “Prospects would have had to trade some high picks for me. The Chargers weren’t going to just give me away, so they recognised my value,” Ekeler fretted. At the same time, the Chargers wouldn’t pay him the money to match that value.
The discussion about the salary of running backs was recently reignited by the situation of running backs Josh Jacobs, Tony Pollard and Saquon Barkley.
