After countless scandals, head coach Urban Meyer is fired by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence explains what this means for the team and if relief is on the horizon.

Munich – The past few months have been anything but easy for the players of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

But not only because the team has already conceded eleven defeats this season, it was much more Head Coach Urban Meyer who strained everyone’s nerves with countless antics.

In the meantime, the franchise has pulled the emergency brake and fired the head coach. For quarterback Trevor Lawrence, that’s a relief. Especially since interim coach Darrell Bevell seems to suit him more anyway.

Lawrence talks about Urban Meyer being out

“He’s very even-keeled,” the playmaker said of his new coach while speaking to US media. “He’s always the same person who never gets too high or too low. That’s something I respect and can see eye-to-eye with.”

He continued, “I would say that’s the most important thing we need right now. Someone who is consistent and just goes forward and pushes through.”

Meyer had lost his job after former Jaguars kicker Josh Lambo declared he had been kicked by the 57-year-old during training.

Before that, he had already caused a stir with various escapades. For example, the married Catholic was filmed intimately dancing with a young lady, had previously hired an athletic trainer known for racism and bullying, and had even called his own assistant coach Bevell a “loser” and questioned his work.

Jaguars want to move forward

“If someone had told me this is how the year was going to go, I wouldn’t have believed it,” Lawrence continued. “I think the coaching change brings some clarity to the guys in the booth. I wouldn’t say it’s a relief, but it brings clarity and some direction for the future,” the rookie is sure.

“We really want to finish the season well, and to be honest, it was hard to get through the last week with everything that happened.”

Whether the separation from Meyer is a release, and whether Bevell, who was recently labelled a “loser”, can help the team, will be seen on Sunday. Then it’s time for the Jaguars against the Houston Texans.
