NFL: San Francisco 49ers may have passed on signing Tom Brady

The San Francisco 49ers may have passed on signing quarterback Tom Brady in last year’s offseason. According to the report, they didn’t see him as a real improvement over Jimmy Garoppolo. That’s according to an “ESPN” report.

Munich – Could the San Francisco 49ers have snagged quarterback Tom Brady in last year’s offseason? “ESPN” reporter Seth Wickersham writes in his book “It’s Better To Be Feared” that Brady was interested in joining the 49ers in the spring of 2020.

He even wrote his former teammate Wes Welker, who was the 49ers’ wide receivers coach at the time, according to the book, that he could see himself finishing his career with head coach Kyle Shanahan’s team.

Brady no upgrade to Jimmy Garoppolo

But management reportedly didn’t see Brady as a real upgrade over starter and Brady’s former teammate Jimmy Garoppolo. Garoppolo had three years remaining on his contract at the time. Brady chose the Buccaneers, won the Super Bowl and is once again on course for the playoffs this season.

Meanwhile, the 49ers selected Trey Lance in the 2021 NFL Draft after “Jimmy G” failed to impress the year before. And Garoppolo can’t find his way back to his 2019 form this season either.
